Tanneries

We source most of our bovine leather from four tanneries that are all members of the Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium. They are located in the Tuscan Leather District, between the provinces of Florence and Pisa, and famous for producing high-quality leathers through traditional methods. We also use bovine leathers from the Horween Leather Company, one of the oldest continuously running tanneries in the United States. Our watch straps are lined with luxurious Zermatt calf from Tanneries Haas in France.

Tanneries Haas

The French Tanneries Haas is all about heritage and tradition. Since 1842, six generations have succeeded each other in running the tannery, which produces what is widely considered to be the most beautiful calf leather in the world. We use their Zermatt calf to line our watch straps, a choice favoured by high-end fashion houses such as Chanel for luxury bags and wallets. When it comes to watch straps, we favour it due to its exceptional sweat-proof properties and near-complete water resistance, which significantly increases the life span of what we make. As such, it is the royalty of lining leathers.

Conceria Walpier

This family-run tannery located in Ponte a Egola was founded by Ciampalini Gino in 1974 and specialises in the production of unique vegetable-tanned leathers. It is synonymous with Italian authenticity and excellence all over the world. We use one of their top leathers, Buttero, to make our watch straps. Buttero has a distinctive look and retains its natural qualities due to the aniline finish, making it the leather of choice for those who want a unique watch strap that will last for a long time. Due to the smooth surface finish, it tends to patina faster than many other types of leather.

Horween Leather Company

Founded by Isadore Horween in 1905, the Horween Leather Company is one of the oldest continuously running tanneries in the United States. It operates out of Chicago and has been passed down through five generations. Horween has a long tradition of supplying leather to iconic American brands, such as Brooks Brothers and Timberland, and is the exclusive supplier of leather for NFL footballs. Their full-grain pull-up leathers, Predator and Dublin, that we use in our watch straps are incredibly durable and will age beautifully with a rich patina. Their rugged look and feel make them the perfect choice for any sports or military watch.

Conceria Puccini Attilio

Steeped in tradition and committed to the artisan process of vegetable tanning, this tannery was founded in the heart of Tuscany in 1950 in the small town of Ponte a Egola. Here, vegetable-tanned leather has been developed since ancient times. The tannery’s founder, Attilio Puccini, was a firm believer in quality and respect for the environment, important values that have been passed down to his family. We use their Koala leather, a classic among the  Vachetta leathers that have become popular with luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton. Vachetta generally comes from the bull’s shoulder and is attractive for its long-lasting properties and natural look.

Conceria Il Ponte

Specialised in the process of vegetable tanning since 1961, this small tannery derives its name from the historic Medici Bridge, a symbol of the Florentine village of Ponte a Cappiano, where it is located. Their leathers are produced through traditional slow-tanning methods, which require a lot of time and a high level of craftsmanship. As the tannery has a gold-rated certification from the Leather Working Group for their commitment to the environment and focuses on sustainable production of leather, it is the perfect pick for the environmentally conscious watch enthusiast.

Badalassi Carlo

This famous tannery is based in the small town of San Miniato near Pisa and has been producing vegetable-tanned leathers for more than forty years with traditional methods. They’re highly respected for their expertise in making Vachetta leathers, which use a special blend of wax in the finish and go into the production of luxury leather goods. One of these is the Minerva Box which we think is one of the best naturally tumbled leathers on the market, and we recommend it if you’re looking for a truly luxurious feel in your watch strap.
