A Year Down the Line, My Strap Is Still Beautiful

Site

For my birthday last year, David made me a strap from aquatic leather. It had sentimental value, because it was destined for a family heirloom – my father’s Tissot Seastar that he was gifted when he retired after working for the same company for thirty years. That kind of service is rare in our time of the gig economy.

The original strap, a rembordé made from lizard, had seen better days so the watch had been left gathering dust in a drawer. At first, I was a bit sceptical to wearing a quartz, as I’ve always enjoyed the morning ritual of winding my watch and see it tick back to life.

Although there’s an incredible charm to mechanical watches, the Tissot quickly grew on me, mainly because I loved how both the watch and the strap were incredibly thin. It’s not just an elegant look, but inquisitive people have asked me about the strap on several occasions.

Unlike aligator, which is instantly recognisable to every watch enthusiast, most of them have never seen a strap made from Atlantic wolffish or trout. It makes for an excellent talking point, as customers who’ve already ordered our aquatic leather straps have let us know.

I was wondering how well it would stand the test of time and I’m delighted to tell you that a year down the line, my strap is still beautiful. If you’re looking for your very own piece unique that will spark curiosity, please get in touch with us to place a custom order. Note that all our aquatic straps are rembordé to preserve the longevity of the piece.
